A b o u t K a t r i n a
Katrina Avery is an Illustrator and Surface Pattern Designer with a legal and commercial background. She is based in sunny Brisbane, Australia, and has lived, studied and worked in Belgium, France, Switzerland and Scotland during much of her adult life.
Memory-Collector
Like 'snapshots in time', Katrina enjoys illustrating everyday moments, as a way to capture these memories. She illustrates little moments for others too, and has been commissioned to create illustrations to celebrate new arrivals and special moments, to capture everyday family moments and to commemorate loved ones.
Pattern-Lover
An avid pattern-lover, Katrina also enjoys creating patterns, either from parts of her illustrations or as patterns in their own rights. You can find a selection of Katrina's patterns on bags, stationery, homewares and prints through her Katrina Avery Redbubble store.
Mixed Media Illustrator
When painting, Katrina’s preferred medium is watercolour, ink (especially gold touches) and fine liner. She likes the sensitivity of pencil sketches as well. Most recently Katrina has been exploring digital illustration, and enjoys the possibilities it presents to create mixed media works – including opportunities to combine her patterns with gestural, expressive, colourful character illustrations.
IllustrationBiz
Katrina is excited about the possibilities for illustrators in today's world. At the end of 2018 she kickstarted IllustrationBiz - a community to connect illustrators and creatives who are eager to learn and share learnings about the business side of the illustration business.
